Lauret Musique: a family music store in Villeneuve‑sur‑Lot

Jean was a gifted young man who studied music and earned his teaching diploma. His music teacher had a daughter, and Jean married her…

Because there was no music shop in Villeneuve‑sur‑Lot, his father‑in‑law encouraged him to open one. In 1969, the business started in a small premises on Rue de la Convention.

Little by little, the Lauret Musique shop filled up with instruments, while Jean spent his weekends playing music for local dances and events.

From the first scores to a local reference

With every order for sheet music, Jean would buy two copies: one for the customer and one to build up his stock.

One guitar, two trumpets and three harmonicas later, the shop’s reputation began to grow. One day, a piano dealer offered him an instrument.

Colette and Jean did not have the cash to buy it. The dealer simply said: “Pay me once it’s sold” – something that would be hard to imagine today.

Six years later, the shop moved to Rue de Casseneuil, into a former bakery.

Patrick Lauret takes over

Thanks to years of determination, Lauret Musique became a local reference. In 2004, it was time for Jean and Colette to retire. Their son Patrick, a conservatory graduate with 17 years of experience as a professional musician, decided to settle down and take over the shop.

Since then, the activity has continued in the same spirit: music books, sheet music, string and wind instruments, instrument rental – almost anything is possible.

In partnership with the local music school, Patrick Lauret advises, supplies and supports musicians, and goes the extra mile to provide after‑sales service and repairs, thanks to a network of young local instrument makers and luthiers.

At the start of every school year, he also welcomes new students: lessons are given in the shop, and with over forty years of local and musical experience, he is there to guide you in all your musical projects.
