Lauret Musique: a family music shop in Villeneuve-sur-Lot since 1969

Jean was a gifted young man who took music lessons and earned his teaching diploma. His teacher had a daughter, whom he married… With no music shop in Villeneuve-sur-Lot at the time, his father-in-law encouraged him to open one. It was 1969, and the business began in a small premises on rue de la Convention.

Little by little, Lauret Musique filled up with instruments, while Jean played at local dances and events at weekends.

From first sheet music orders to a regional landmark

Every time a customer ordered a piece of sheet music, Jean would order two copies: one for the customer, one for stock. One guitar, two trumpets and three harmonicas later, his reputation was growing. When a piano dealer offered him an instrument one day, Jean and Colette didn’t have the cash to pay for it upfront. The dealer simply said: “Pay me once you’ve sold it” — a different era, almost unthinkable today.

Six years later, the shop moved to rue de Casseneuil, into a former bakery. The go-to music address in Villeneuve-sur-Lot was firmly established.

Patrick Lauret takes the helm

In 2004, Jean and Colette retired. Their son Patrick, a conservatoire graduate with 17 years as a professional performing musician, decided to “put down roots” and took over the family business.

Since then, the tradition has continued: sheet music and music books, string instruments, wind instruments, instrument rental, all available under one roof. Working alongside the local music school, Patrick advises, supplies and goes the extra mile to ensure after-sales service and instrument repairs through a network of local craftspeople and luthiers. Music lessons are also offered in-store every academic year.
